Explore the Nativity outdoors with this fun scavenger hunt. Ideal to share at home, forest school, or church, the free printable sheet can be used by individuals, families or groups of children.
With so many seasonal activities taking place indoors, this Outdoor Nativity Scavenger Hunt offers children a great opportunity to head outdoors, burn off some energy & discover key elements of the Christmas Story through the natural world around us
With all the busyness this month can bring it can sometimes feel there are fewer opportunities to go out & explore all this season has to offer. The beauty of this Nativity Scavenger Hunt is that it can be explored anywhere, you don't have to head off on a trek to a woodland or shepherd's hillside! Just by walking around your neighbourhood, garden, churchyard, school playing field, or community garden you'll be able to discover the 12 nature finds & learn more about the Christmas Story as you do so.
To help children sequence the key events of the Nativity, the items on the scavenge hunt follow the same pattern as the narrative, starting with the Angel Gabriel visiting Mary & finishing with the visit from the Wise Men. There are also stars to colour as each item is found, & these offer a simple counting activity for younger children too.
You can download your copy of the scavenger hunt here: Outdoor Nativity Scavenger Hunt.
If you wish to do a follow up activity, you could use the Scavenger Hunt as a writing prompt for children to retell the Christmas Story, or encourage them to explore the scavenger hunt in a different location to see if they discover something new.
This is another great printable to leave in your church for children & families to discover... perhaps even older members of your community might enjoy it too.
Have fun exploring this mindful activity & reconnecting with nature & the Nativity this season.
