The School Summer Holidays are just around the corner, but for many families the prospect of providing six weeks of entertainment is rather daunting, especially when so many activities & events require payment. With the rise in living costs, many families are looking for accessible activities close to where they live.
Churches are in a wonderful position to help, & with a church building in almost every community, there's the opportunity to offer much needed support to parents & carers throughout the summer.
That's where this resource comes in! 50 Children's Activities for Churches this Summer is a 30+ page resource, with a range of tried & tested activities for your church to offer local families. From simple activities, to slightly more creative ones, there is something for all ages to enjoy.
The resource is split into five activity themes; Play, Art, Nature, Eco Activities & Food. It also includes printable craft templates, activity sheets, planning sheets, recipes & food ideas, feedback forms to use at your event, plus a poster. All you need to do is pick & choose which activities are most suitable for your community.
You may feel your church is unable to offer anything over the summer due to it's location, size or limited budget, but there are simple activities in this pack that are suitable for your church too. Why offer something every week?
In the past I've run an Activity Day each week of the Summer Holidays. Called "Terrific Tuesdays" (yep you've guessed it, they took place on the same day each week) they offered a selection of activities based on a theme, alongside a café area for parents & children. The day was free of charge, but donation buckets were dotted around for those who were able to donate. Most days, the donations in the buckets covered the cost of the activities.
I've seen the real value of offering activities like this over the holidays, especially for those families struggling financially. Over our summer activities, families built relationships with the church community, friendships were made, tummies were fed, conversations eased burdens, & faith was very much in action. And if you think the activities available were fancy or complicated, requiring expensive resources, the answer is no, they were simple activities, mostly using recycled materials, that offered creative fun for children, & a welcoming space for parents to catch up with friends old & new.
Could your fabulous church offer something similar this Summer? It doesn't have to be a Holiday Club, or jammed pack event. It can simply be a craft, or activity left for children to discover. Who knows the difference it could make.
